Seven Jardine crib models have been voluntarily recalled following reports of infant entrapments. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall in cooperation with Jardine Enterprises of Taipei, Taiwan.
Approximately 96,000 cribs have been included in the nationwide recall. This recall is the third announcement in the last year involving Jardine cribs. In June 2008, 320,000 cribs were recalled and in January 2009, 56,450 cribs were recalled.
According to the press release by the CPSC, the wooden crib slats can break, which can create a dangerous gap. This gap can lead to entrapment and strangulation of infants and toddlers. There have already been 31 reports of slats breaking, including two reports of children becoming entrapped in the gap created by the broken slat. Among these reports, there were 10 that mentioned that the child broke the slat while in the Jardine crib. There was one report of minor injuries that included bumps and abrasions.
