A Florida car accident seriously injured three people on the evening of Sunday, June 28, 2009. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Interstate 4 near Plant City after a driver was speeding down the highway and hit a vehicle while changing lanes.
The three occupants of the vehicle hit, 36-year-old Laura Waiters, 32-year-old Angella Humphrey, and 55-year-old Thedis Wilburn, were transported to Tampa General Hospital and were listed as being in serious condition. All three of the injured victims are from Tampa.
There was another occupant in the vehicle, a 7-year-old girl, but she was not injured in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Kyrie Lynn Fitzgerald, a 20-year-old Largo resident, was speeding and changing lanes in and out of traffic when she passed Waiters’ vehicle. Fitzgerald went into Waiters’ lane and the front of her vehicle struck the rear of Waiters’ car. As a result, Waiters lost control of her Toyota and the vehicle started to spin across all three westbound lanes of I-4 before it crashed into a concrete barrier wall. Fitzgerald’s Mitsubishi also spun out of control, but stopped on the outside lane.
Fitzgerald was not injured in the accident and was issued a citation for failure to use due care.
