A Volusia car accident involving a motorcycle and a car results in the death of an Illinois man. The incident took place at approximately 11:30 AM on Thursday morning, November 12, 2009.
The accident happened at Old Daytona Road and Garfield Avenue, west of Daytona Beach, when a motorcycle collided with a small car. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Virgil Wright, 66, of Decatur and his wife, Sharon, 64, were traveling westbound on Old Daytona Road on a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when they were struck by a 2005 Mini Cooper driven by Christopher Picklo, 29, of Smyrna Beach.
Picklo was in the process of making a left turn onto Garfield Avenue when his car turned directly into the path of Wright and striking the motorcycle, according to state troopers.
According to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes, rescue workers transported Wright to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he died three days later from injuries suffered in the two-vehicle wreck. Sharon Wright suffered serious injuries in the crash but is recovering, said Montes. It was unclear if Picklo suffered injuries.
The Volusia accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, charges have not been filed as of yet.
