College Student Dies in Brandon Car Accident
A college student loses his life when his vehicle slams into a utility pole on Lakewood Drive in Brandon, Florida. The Brandon car accident took place at approximately 3:00 AM on Thursday morning, September 24, 2009.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, Evaristo A. Jimenez, 22, died shortly after crashing into the utility pole when he lost control of his car and slid off the road. He dies that morning.
There were three other passengers in the car, Kenneth Whitehead, 21 of Brandon, Dantae Johnson, 21 of Seffner, and Darryl Ross, 22 of Valrico. They were each transported to Tampa General Hospital and treated for injuries.
Of the survivors, Whitehead, the only passenger reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, suffered the most severe injuries. Authorities reported that he was originally listed as having life-threatening injuries. Johnson and Ross were reported to be in fair condition.
Jimenez, driving a 1994 Honda Accord, was apparently traveling at a high speed along Lakewood Drive towards Brandon Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle. The car traveled off the road finally wrapping around a wooden utility pole near the driver’s side.
The accident is still under investigation. Deputies have not determined whether alcohol played a role in the incident. However, Jimenez is reported as having a clean driving record.
