Do you or someone you know have a loved one in a nursing home? If so, then you understand that we place our loved ones in nursing homes with the assumption that they are receiving the best possible care. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.
In a recent congressional report, instances of physical, sexual and verbal abuse have been reported in nursing homes all around the nation. As a matter of fact, the study found that 30 percent of nursing homes in America were cited for approximately 9,000 instances of abuse from 1999 to 2001.
This is tragic. Some cases showed that residences were physically or sexually abused by nursing staff. Others were hit, choked and even kicked, causing serious injuries.
It’s so bad that in one instance, staff members bribed a brain-damaged resident to attack another resident using a cigarette. The staff members just watched.
If you believe that you know of someone who is being abused in a nursing home then you need to find out how you can protect them. You need to seek professional advice before that loved one suffers again at the hands of a nursing home employee.
